July 2009

We had to wait until June to get out and amongst the competitions due to all of the rain. It was worth the wait however with many of the Riverside team winning and placing at dressage competitons.

Jenny started the season well on Magma and Gitane at Park Ridge two star event. Gitane won both advanced classes and was second in her first ever start at Prix St George level. Magma had convincing win in the Inter 11 class and was a little flat but still managed a 2nd in the Grand Prix class. Femme Sateen had to sit this competition ouit due to the organisers limiting the numbers of horses per rider.

Next up was the Brenda Wittman Classic. All three mares competed and placed in every class. The highlight was Gitane winning the Advanced Champion rug.

The festival of Dressage has been and gone and it was a huge success. Jenny's seminar on how to introduce the double bridle and presentation on “how to warm up for your best dressage test” both went down well with the spectators.

Jocelyn has had a good start to the season with placings and wins riding Wallstrasse. 'Walter' had his first start at Advanced level and came a commendable fourth in what was certainly not his best performance so his future looks bright. Joc is soon to bring out Adrienne Simmons lovely gelding to the competiton arena so we look forward to that.

Jocelyn is now an official Dressage judge. Congratulations to Joc on passing her judgeing assesment.

Diane and Paul Mackie have both been successful in their respection events. Di in Dressage and Paul in Eventing. Di and Joker have won and placed at Medium level this year and also plan to start at Advanced level this month. Well done!

Stephanie Poulsen has had an extremly successful QISEA campaign and has been selected to represent QLD at the QISEA Nationals Championships in Melbourne! Congratulations Steph!

Mandy Finnimore and Jaybee Jazzbo have already claimed a hoard of placings and prizes and it's great to see Mandy and Diamontina back out and about scoring 70%!

Kate Wilson and Dallas and La Viva continue there successful run even after Kate was away for 6 weeks! Go Kate!

Caro Sprengal and her partner Kirk are to be married on the 2nd of August. We wish them both all the very best for their big day and a long and happy marriage.

Riding School News

Our lessons are filling up again but we still have some places available so we are continueing to offer our junior riders a 2nd group lesson a week for the discounted rate of $45 per lesson. If a group of friends want to have weekly lessons together please let us know as we have spaces for extra lessons between 4 and 5pm, on Tuesday afternoons and between 5 and 6pm on Wednesday afternoons.

Saddle Club (Saturday afternoons between 2 and 4pm – Cost $45 per rider) is proving very popular and we often have “birthday groups” attending. Some adults are taking the oportunity of riding in Saddle Club with their children or friends. We are asking Saddle Club attendees whether they want a lesson in the shed or a short trail ride. The latter has been favoured during this spell of sunny weather. Attendees at Saddle Club are reminded that it only runs between 2pm and 4pm so they need to be picked up by 4pm. We can't supervise saddle club pupils before or after these times.

Bridle Club (fortnightly Sunday mornings between 8.45 and 10.30am cost $35) also is providing riding experiences for younger birthday parties. It is popular both with the riders 3 to 7 and with the older riders who enjoy helping lead the young riders and having a longer helper ride. Riverside pupils who are having weekly lessons and are 9 or older are invited to attend Bridle Club as Helpers and to join in the helper ride. Adults are also welcome to ride in Bridle Club.

Bridle Club dates for third term are: 2nd, 16th & 30th August, 13th & 27th September, 11th & 25th October, 2009.

Adult Lessons. We have more adults taking private lessons during weekday mornings and are pleased to report that the number of men riding is increasing. Riverside has an adult riding group between 3.45 and 5.15pm on Saturday afternoons.
