Karen Poulsen
I have been married for 20 years and have 3 children aged 17, 15 and 10 years. I grew up in Ipswich and after getting married lived in Brisbane. The past 15 years I have mostly done voluntary work at the kindergartens, pre-schools and schools my children attended. I have also worked on a voluntary basis at a riding school for disabled children. Before working at Riverside I worked at a child care centre.
My daughters Renée and Stephanie have been riding and competing for a number of years. Over that time I have been very involved, taking my girls to regular riding lessons, helping them with their horses and taking them to competitions. This inspired me to have lessons which then lead to wanting a career working with horses.
I started my traineeship at Riverside Equestrian Centre for a variety of reasons, but mostly because I can do the things I enjoy most, working outdoors with children and horses and with a great bunch of people.
As a parent I couldn’t think of any better place for children to spend their time, learning how to ride and care for horses in a fun, safe and healthy environment and always meeting new friends who share a common love.
